Pencak Silat is an Asian fighting art developed hundreds of years ago in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. It is originally martial art of Indonesia and is also practiced in the Thai southern border provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.
It’s considered one of the world’s top ten most lethal styles of fighting. In the past, a long knife called a “keris” and a long stick would be used in fighting but these are now used only in the artistic category competition.
In 1982 Pencak Silat was introduced in world championship for the first time, and then in Thailand National Competition in 1987.
